I’m here because somebody marched. I’m here because you all sacrificed for me. I stand on the shoulders of giants.” — Barack Obama, 2007 Selma Voting Rights March Commemoration Watch More Videos It is an exciting time for African Americans, who will play a pivotal role in this election. We want to ensure that you have what you need to share your ideas and turn your enthusiasm for Barack into action that can help lift up your families and communities. There is no better advocate for African Americans than Barack Obama. Barack knows your story, because it is his story. The causes that you hold dear have been the causes of his life. Barack has spent his entire career fighting for justice — as a community organizer in the streets of the South Side of Chicago, as a civil rights attorney, a constitutional law professor, an Illinois state Senator and a U.S. Senator. As President, you can trust that he will hear your voice, understand your concerns, and act on your priorities. Barack believes that if we can put an end to partisan politics, bring people together, and recognize that what unites us is greater than what divides us – then we can make fundamental change possible in this country. Whether it is ending the Iraq war, providing universal health care, making college tuition more affordable, placing a quality teacher in every classroom, or expanding economic opportunity in urban areas and making “equal justice under the law” a reality for every citizen, you can have confidence in the courage, sound judgment, and leadership of Barack Obama. Barack is ready to lead as President. But, he needs your help. True to the spirit of the Civil Rights Movement, Barack’s candidacy is driven from the bottom up, by everyday people resolved to come together and demand better of their government Join us in making America what we dream it can be.

BUNAGANA, DRCongo (AFP) – "Welcome to liberated Congo," greets Oscar Mugabu, an elated supporter of rebel leader Laurent Nkunda whose fighters control this town in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Jubilant residents of Bunagana, which borders Uganda, are revelling in the rule of Nkunda's National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP), which recently won the defection of two lawmakers to its side. The rebels and government troops have clashed regularly since fighting resumed on August 28 in eastern DRC in violation of a ceasefire reached under the Goma peace accord in January. But one Nkunda aide who spoke on condition of anonymity boasted of relative peace in this rebel-controlled territory. Women walked freely in Bunagana's main road, a group of boys kicked about a deflated football while a drunkard mumbled and shouted in the middle of the road. A ceremony in the town's trading centre on Friday ushered the defection of the politicians and other leaders from DRC's eastern Nord-Kivu province from the provincial and national governments. "Those of you who no longer have fear, put your hands up," Vicente Mwanbusta, a local leader and a Nkunda loyalist asked a crowd attending the ceremony. Many raised their hands, feeling compelled as dozens of politicians and local leaders peered intently at them. Some 100 provincial and local officials in both Nord- and Sud-Kivu regions who were previously willing to work with Kinshasa have now decided to ally themselves with Nkunda, according to a spokesman for the rebel leader. While the CNDP tried on Friday to show that it could offer peace, it also took the opportunity to demonstrate it was prepared to use force. At the celebration, marked with speeches from various politicians, fighters rolled through the town in massive trucks carrying heavy artillery, grenade launchers and other weapons. Dozens of Nkunda's fighters brandished the weapons to boast a series of supposed victories against government forces from whom they claim they seized the arsenal. A young boy, among many locals who were eager to take a closer look at the weapons, stared down the barrel of a grenade launcher at a field where the arsenal was displayed. After the all-day festivities, the politicians and the fighters gathered at a guest house to feast on beans, rice, roasted potatoes and meat stew washed down with beers and sodas. The banquet crescendoed into songs at sun set, while those who extended into late night gatherings shared Bible passages. As the sun rose over the volcanic mountains that sketch Bunagana's skyline, Mugabu told AFP why the he believed the rebel cause was worthwhile. "All around Congo people are suffering. Civil servants are on strike. Schools are closed. Hospitals are closed. The government has been given a chance. It has failed," he said. CNDP executive committee spokesman Major Mbera Castro told AFP that Nkunda forces expect to engage in clashes with the government again in the coming days, although he did not specify when.

A suivre!

Im a danish saxophone player who just came to Stockholm 3 days ago to live and work. I was searching today for jamssesions in Stockholm, and then I saw the Afro Jam at Lilla Wien. I must say that sounds so cool, and I will definetly go on the next one on the 17 oct! I was playing in Helsinki with the "Aiekoto and his international band", I don't know if you know them? It's afro beat from Nigeria. Anyway I liked it so much that I would like to keep on playing african music... in different variations. So I was just wondering... is the jamsession open to everyone? For me it would be a great place to meet some musicians and enjoy playing of course. Please let me know about that. Thank you so much, have a nice day. Pablo Machine in Dar to market `The Last Prophet` 2008-01-07 09:32:44 By Valentine Oforo Sweden-based local musician Kumwimba Thabit Makangira a.k.a Pablo Machine is in the country to market his new album, ``The Last Prophet``. Pablo, who went to Sweden in 2003 to form Tanganyika Band, says numbers in the album have been composed in Kiswahili and western beats. ``I have decided to mix the western and Africa beats to satisfying my fans who are in Tanzania and those abroad,`` explained Pablo. ``Since I left in 1999 for Botswana, local fans have not heard of my music. I have brought my album here to show them that I am still in the profession,`` he added. He said he has already taken the album to various local radio stations and people would soon start listening to his compositions. Pablo started his music carrier as a street dancer before joining MK Group in 1991 and later tied up with Ellyston Angai to record \"The Last Mission\" album in 1992. They also involved singers such as Skassy Kasambula and Geto Senga to compose songs in the album. Publo later went to South Africa before shifting to Zambia. Pablo has so far worked with big artistes such as the late James Dandu aka Mtoto wa Dandu, Pepe Kalle and Werrason Ngiama Makanda. Kenya leaders talk peace but violence doesn`t stop Kenya- Youths burned hundreds of homes in a town in Kenya`s Rift Valley yesterday, sending residents fleeing with all they could carry, despite an agreement between feuding politicians to end weeks of bloodshed. Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan brokered a deal between Kenya\'s rival parties on Friday to take immediate steps to end post-election violence which has killed nearly 900 people and displaced more than a quarter of a million. But yesterday, huge flames soared over slum dwellings in the Rift Valley town of Kericho. Residents dragged out mattresses, cupboards, suitcases and pots and pans, piling them onto carts as they tried to escape the unrest. ``They say these buildings belong to a Kikuyu so they are burning them to tell them to go away,`` said Victor Kemboi, one Kericho resident, as shacks smouldered behind him. Riots, clashes with security forces and ethnic reprisals broke out after President Mwai Kibaki was returned to power in a Dec. 27 poll which his rival Raila Odinga says was rigged

Hej!

Hallo Friends of Africa, Catastrophe know no boundaries and give no ample notice!! A catastophe has hit a large part of Africa is under severe floods as indicated in the attachment. The middle belt of Africa from the Atlantic Ocean to the indian ocean has been flooded. No body knows has exact statistics becaus the communication infrastructure has been destroyed. 20 countries have been affected and 3 million people are already in emrgency need of all the funamental and basic human needs. The situation requires a lot of human and material resources and this is beyond management of the governments and NGOs. We Africans living the Diaspora have taken the initiative to raise awareness among the international community to all humane people in order to raise the attention and the help required to rescue our people. In Sweden we have managed to put together an emrgency appeal confernece in which ambassadors of the affected countries , being ed by the Dean of the African ambassadors in Sweden will talk about the situation in their countries and inspire the audince to give attention and immediatehelp. The Swedish Redcross will be participating to inform us on how they asses the situation, what they are already doing, what channels they have through which the assistance will reach the people and to collect the immediate help that people may give in a fund raising in the conference. In the conference we shall also discuss how we in Sweden shall continue to offer help in tackling the short term and long term needs resulting from the effects of the floods catastrophe. Samson Mande Interin chairman the Forum for Africans Unity in Sweden.

Land, Döda, Hemlösa Drabbade BURKINA FASO, 33 10 000 OKÄNT ETIOPIEN 17 42 000 200 000 GHANA 18 OKÄNT 260 000 KAMERUN 6 1200 OKÄNT NIGERIA, 68 OKÄNT 50 000 RWANDA 15 100 tals OKÄNT SUDAN 199 150 000 OKÄNT TOGO 20 66 000 OKÄNT UGANDA 9 150 000 300 000 i behöv av akut hjälp Antal: hemlösa: Över 600 000 Döda: 317 Drabbade. 460 000 I nöd: 300 000 Också drabbade länder: Benin, Gambia, Elfenbenskusten, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauretanien, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tchad. Photo from left she is Gov General of Canada Son Excellence la très honorable Michaëlle Jean, gouverneure générale du Canada and Simbizi Apollonie Burundi Ambassador in Canada. Burundi: Community in Canada Marks the 45th Anniversary of Independence Ottawa On July 07th , 2007 a crowd of Burundians from all ethnic groups, various diplomats and representatives of different organizations gathered in Ottawa, the Capital city of Canada to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Burundi's independence which was organized by the Burundi ambassador in Canada, Madame Simbizi Appolonie. The event started with a match of soccer between Burundi and Cameroun earlier in the day, with Burundi beating Cameroun 2 to 1. Later in the evening, over three hundred people gathered at Centre Communautaire Richelieu-Vanier where the reception took place. Africa 2007 At 7:40pm the ceremony started with Burundi drums followed by traditional dancers, and at around 8:40pm Jean de Dieu, a moderator for the event invited everybody present at the ceremony to rise and sing both the Burundi and the Canadian national anthems. At 8:45pm Ms. Simbizi Apollonie addressed her ceremonial speech for the event. She started by thanking everybody present at the ceremony Burundians and Canadians alike while extending thank you to special guest representatives helping in Burundi's reconstruction as well as various ambassadors who were present. She reminded everybody that the reason of the gathering was to commemorate Mr. Prince Louis Rwagasore and to celebrate Burundi's 45th anniversary of independence which he died .. Ms. Simbizi further acknowledged that Rwagasore's speech shortly after his party won the elections encouraged reconciliations among all ethnic groups, tolerance, peace and security for all and respect of one another. Ms. Simbizi listed other african independence heros such as N'KWAME NKRUMAH, JULIUS NYERERE , PATRICE LUMUMBA, and BEN BELLA. She further recommended Burundians to rejoice the independence by following these heros as role models. While Ms. Simbizi indicated that we came from far away she also acknowledged that we still have a long way to go. Hence, she invited all Burundians in the diaspora to unite, and bring fresh ideas in helping their brothers and sisters who are back in Burundi in reconstruction of Burundi's political, and socio-economic status. Madame Simbizi emphasized unity, tolerance, and hard work for young Burundians in Canada. She concluded by presenting a "cup" to Burundi soccer team for its victory over Cameroun and by thanking the traditional dancers as well as the drummers for a job well done. The reception continued with dinner and social dance which ended at 12:30am

by Editor Stockhol Media: Foreign Affairs Minister Mompati Merafhe has said that the recent impact surveys have shown a significant reduction in the prevalence rates of HIV/AIDS. The minister said the reduction has been especially notable among pregnant mothers in the Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT) programme. However, he warned that the positive indicators should not lull the country into complacency. The minister was speaking at celebrations to mark the 231st anniversary of the independence of the United States in Gaborone. He said Botswana continues to benefit from assistance from the United States in areas such as HIV/AIDS, environmental conservation, law enforcement, and leadership development, capacity building for trade, private sector development and education. He said that since 1966 the two countries have collaborated in numerous programmes, which have contributed to development. Africa 2007 He welcomed the announcement by President George W. Bush to increase the resources provided through the Presidential Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Merafhe applauded the successful conclusion of the Tropical Forest Conservation Agreement between Botswana and the United States. He said the agreement would benefit Botswana in environmental conservation. He stated that southern Africa experiences severe drought but there is solace in the fact that the region can count on friends like the United States to assist in mitigating the impact of the challenge. He praised the United States for its steadfastness in the search for a lasting solution to the Darfur crisis. US ambassador Katherine Canavan said prior to the declaration of independence, her country was extremely fortunate to have a cadre of impressive individuals with vision. The individuals acted on the strength of their convictions to form a country where all men are created equally and everyone has a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. While we are making progress, we are not there yet," she said. She added that the US and Botswana share a common concern for the welfare of the people and the partnership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. She said that the US is supporting Botswana's national programme through PEPFAR with US $71 million this year. There are also new US supported programmes like the Early Infant Diagnosis Programme that has been rolled out nationwide. This has saved lives of half of the babies born HIV positive. The other programme is that of Zebras 4 Life, Test 4 Life campaign, which encourages national team fans and players to test for HIV/AIDS.
Burundi: Re-Unite CNDD-FDD Parliamentary Group Or Rely On the Opposition

Bujumbura 09 July 07 Since the February 2007 congress that saw the ousting of Mr. Radjabu, plus a series of dismissals of people considered his key allies, followed by his incarceration, it was believed by many that the order was going to be restored within the ruling party which has been going under internal divisions since it came to power in August 2005. However, the divisions continued. Its parliamentary team split; those favoring Mr. Radjubu and those favoring Mr. Nkurunziza. As a consequence, the ruling party's remaining parliamentary group has to rely on the opposition parties to pass any laws in parliament. Africa 2007 With the new government that Burundi people anxiously await for, it is tough for Nkurunziza who is under pressure to fulfill promises made to apposition parties when seeking alliances in the ousting of Immacule Nahayo, the former president of the National assembly and a loyal to Mr. Radjabu. Uprona requests for an additional ministerial post that it was promised. Initially, Uprona had also requested to be guaranteed an Upronist parliamentary group, but the request was rejected by the interior ministry due to the mono-ethinic composition of its parliamentary team. Frodebu wants the 5 ministerial posts that it is entitled to, according the 2005 election results. Frodebu also worries about its reputation and credibility should it decide to take part in the new government. For instance, it worries that If it joins the new government, its spot as an opposition party might be weakened by the fact that it would have to follow the CNDD-FDD platform and it would not find it as comfortable to criticize a government that itself is part of. Frodebu might also be held accountable by its members along with CNDD-FDD for any wrong doing by the new by government, hence losing credibility of its members. To counter the above, Frodebu is pressuring Mr. Nkurunziza that all major files that involve his current government are cleared before deciding whether or not to take part in the new government. Among the files that Frodebu request clarifications are: the illegal sale and embazzlement of the proceeds of the presidential plane and the Muyinga massacres. Nkurunziza is also being pressured for the release of Mr. Radjabu by the CNDD-FDD-RADJABU parliamentary team before they can consider rejoining the CNDD-FDD parliamentary group. Some experts on this matter revealed to Burundi Réalités Agence Presse that Mr. Nkurunziza would rather negotiate with the opposition parties if the only way for reunification of the ruling party's parliamentary group is the release of Mr. Radjabu. They further explained that releasing Radjabu might not necessarily work in Mr. Nkurunziza's favor, but might rather make matters worst for him.
Tanzania: Local Oil Invites Americans

By Editor Stockholm Media: Last week, Tanzania announced that it had hit commercially viable oil deposits along its coast. This comes just over one year after Uganda struck its own black gold in the west. And suddenly rumours of Americans calling on the region are rife. There are speculations that United States is planning increased presence in the region by creating a military command to be based in either East Africa or South Africa. The Tanzanian oil find stoked further debate over the mandate of the recently created US Africa Command (Africom), an American military frontier outpost in Africa set to come into effect in September next year. The mandate of the command is expected to be much more than "to kill or capture al Qaeda fighters," according to a story published last Monday by defence writers Thomas PM Barnett and Bryan Christie based at the Pentagon, the US defence headquarters. The story provided fresh insights into why the US is moving in earnest to put in place Africom to check China's growing economic and military clout in East Africa. Political antennae in the West have pricked oil prospectors' hopes in the past two years that before 2020, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and chaotic Somalia would have had a clear picture of their 'oil status'.' Traditional oil producers in the Middle East and Latin America are tightening grip on their resource. Which is why East Africa is believed to be the next oil frontier the West appears determined to hold onto. "With its vast natural and mineral resources, Africa remains strategically important to the West, as it has been for hundreds of years, and its geostrategic significance is likely to rise in the 21st century," an American security expert John CK Daly wrote in an online story in ISN Security Watch magazine published in Zurich, Switzerland, last week. United States will take charge of region Daly said the remit of Africom, which comes into effect next year, is still largely ambiguous, although "African nations remain cool to the idea amid fears of mission creep and unclear US intentions". "From next year, the United States will take charge of security in the region to counter the growing spectre international terrorism, but according defence and economic experts, the US is positioning itself to neutralise Chinese influence in East Africa, which has been receiving attention from the world's fastest growing economy," Daly, a consultant and an adjunct scholar at the Middle East Institute, said. The US military involvement in Africa is shared among the US European Command, the US Central Command and the US Pacific Command. Defence Secretary Robert Gates called this divided responsibility "an outdated arrangement left over from the Cold War." Gates told the Senate Armed Services Committee four months ago that creating Africom would "enable us to have a more effective and integrated approach than the current arrangement of dividing Africa between different regional commands". President George W Bush has ordered that Africom be created by September 2008. A top-ranking, four-star military officer who will serve on equal footing with other regional US commanders around the globe will head it. Bush announced on February 2, that the US planned to consult African leaders "to seek their thoughts on how Africa Command can respond to security challenges". He also said the US would "work closely with our African partners to determine an appropriate location for the new command in Africa". It expected that East Africa or South Africa would host the command given their proximity to the volatile Middle East. Another US defence expert, James Jay Carafano, added, "The US is facing increasing international pressure to play a more prominent role on the world's most troubled continent. The continuing civil wars in Liberia and the Congo, the spectre of tyranny and man-made famine in Zimbabwe, the global spread of infectious diseases and the rising threat of international terrorism in East Africa are all issues of mounting concern." Carafano, a defence scholar, said, "A dedicated command could also more efficiently oversee US anti-terrorism efforts in East Africa and provide American political leaders

Museveni, Maria Nyerere and Kikwete, accompanied by the first ladies, arrive in Butiama village in Musoma, Tanzania PRESIDENT Museveni has posthumously decorated former Tanzanian President, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, with Uganda’s highest military medal – the Katonga. The medal was in honour of Nyerere’s heroic struggle to liberate Africa from colonialists and Uganda from the Idi Amin dictatorship. The Katonga is given for heroism. In a colourful ceremony at Nyerere’s home in Butiama, northern Tanzania, Museveni yesterday also honoured Nyerere’s widow, Maria and Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete. Kikwete received the Grand Commander of the Pearl of Africa medal, while Mrs. Nyerere got the Grand Master of the Pearl of Africa. Nyerere’s Katonga medal was a confirmation of how Ugandans valued his contributions to shaping the destiny of the continent, Museveni said, describing Nyerere as the greatest African. “In order to secure the future of the Black race and other African peoples, the present and future generations of African leaders must do more than pre-colonial chiefs, the colonialists and the post-colonial leaders have done; they must emulate the actions of Mwalimu and Sheikh Karume when they united Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964,” said Museveni “Mwalimu, almost single-handedly, stood by the people of Uganda when we were being decimated by Idi Amin. He rejected the notion that Idi Amin has a right to misuse the sovereignty of Uganda and kill us at will. The Uganda National Liberation Front in 1979, and the National Resistance Army in 1985, got substantial material support that enabled us to create a new Uganda. No other African or blackman has made such a contribution throughout the five million years of our history,” he added. Kikwete said: “Not many people bother to remember those who have done good. President Museveni, you are very different. You know how to appreciate and many times you have remained steadfast in remembering what Mwalimu did for Africa and your country.” Upon arrival, Museveni and first lady Janet laid a wreath at Nyerere’s mausoleum. Recounting the role Tanzania played in liberating Uganda and Africa, Kikwete said if it were not for their indulgence in war, Tanzania’s economy would have been different. “But we had to help our brothers and sisters,” he added. Nyerere ruled Tanzania from Indepedence in 1961 up to 1985 when he handed over to Ali Hassan Mwinyi. Museveni arrived at the Tanzania border of Sirare at 11:45am from Kisumu, Kenya, where he spent the night, to a tumultuous welcome from Tanzanians led by Mara Resident Commissioner, Isidori Shirima.

Over 1,300 shop owners, company officials arrested in Zimbabwe World News Harare - Zimbabwean police have arrested more than 1,300 shop owners and business executives for defying the government's orders to reduce prices, state radio said Monday. President Robert Mugabe's government, concerned by rocketing prices that could trigger social unrest, had ordered shops and businesses to reduce their prices to levels used on June 18, or face arrest. Last week price inspectors accompanied by teams of police began visiting shops countrywide ordering prices down, sometimes by as much as half under a police blitz dubbed Operation Reduce Prices. Since the inception of Operation Reduce Prices police crack teams operating in conjunction with other government units have arrested 1,328 shop owners, police spokesman Oliver Mandipaka was quoted as saying in a statement. Those arrested include company directors, general managers and sales managers, he said. Some of them were due to appear in court on Monday facing charges that include failing to comply with the government directive to reduce prices to June 18 levels, failure to display prices and hoarding of goods. Police meanwhile have threatened to extend their blitz to pharmacies, hardware stores and Harare's flea markets - informal marketplaces that many city dwellers rely on to buy cheap clothes, shoes and electronic goods. In a move likely to precipitate a fuel crisis, the price inspectors ordered service stations in Harare to reduce the price of a litre of diesel and petrol from around 200,000 Zimbabwe dollars to between 55,000 and 60,000 dollars. The new price is worth around 0.34 US dollars per litre, which is way below the selling price for fuel in the region. In neighbouring Mozambique, petrol sells for nearly 1.50 US dollars a litre. Mugabe says the price hikes are part of an imperialist plot to unseat the government. But retailers and manufacturers say their high prices are justified amid an economic crisis marked by acute shortages of fuel, power and foreign currency and inflation of more than 4,500 per cent. by Editor Stockholm Media

3. What exactly enslaves AFRICA?

What exactly enslaves AFRICA? Editor:Stockholm Media ImageAcross the Atlantic is America, the “the First World”. Europe and eastern Asia are surreptitiously referred to as “the Second World”... probably because of the Second World Wars. Meanwhile, detached, both culturally and ethnically, basking in never-ending drought, lies Africa. A woman gives birth only when she is ready, and cloud-seeding is as unnatural as genetically modified crops. Surely this contributes to drought conditions, and should, therefore, be classified as weapons of subliminal warfare? Africa was, until recently, referred to as “the Third World”. And thus we have it - the First, Second and Third World. However, calling Africa the “Third World”, instantly devalued our continent. Who in the world aspires to being third? Having seen through this deceitful curtain of political incorrectness, suddenly Africa now appears to be content with its new title, “the Developing World”, despite the west still being the First World. Africa will, therefore, never be part of the First or Second World. This keeps everyone focused on mind games instead of pertinent issues such as Africa’s potential to provide Europe with solar energy. Daily we watch the hot sun rise, long before the west. We are virtually one day ahead of our competitors. Why, then, have we always lagged so far behind? Not according to history. On researching Gerald Massey’s “A Book of the Beginnings” (Black Classic Press 1881), Charles Finch’s powerful conclusion is that in Africa alone can be found the origins and ancient beginnings of myths, mysteries, symbols, languages and religions. The Sphinx and Giza Pyramids in the Nile River Valley were built 6,000 years ago. The history of Abyssinian Islam begins in 615AD, roughly consistent with the Jewish Old Testament. Today Africa holds centre court. Many fell in love with this bewitching virgin, and in her puberty state she still tantalises the planet with promises of matured mineral resources, fossil fuels, rain forests and virgin soil. Recently evidence of oil reserves surfaced in Uganda. Below the equatorial waistline of the Motherland, a devastatingly beautifully robed goddess, is the coveted wealth of the Congo. Zambia is famous for its copper belt deposits. Angola has as much, if not more black gold in her loins than Saudi Arabia, and diamonds spill from the ovaries of Botswana. South Africa has pure gold flowing through her voluptuous thighs. The western conglomerates know exactly how valuable and vulnerable this woman is. In addition, they know that Africa has the capacity to bypass any loans on offer. It is laughable that akin to what miniscule monies are owed by the entire continent to the World Bank, that which lies buried beneath the soil of this vast continent more than guarantees repayment of the limited funding condescendingly loaned to any grateful African government that approaches, begging bowl in hands. Meanwhile arms dealers in the guise of hooded vultures, impatiently hover behind the scenes, ready to sacrifice human lives at the end of a bullet for their cut of the quick new-found wealth. Unfortunately, for many African leaders, their limited experience in managing billions of dollars is probably their weakest link – the other is having their egos continually massaged by unscrupulous arms dealers, a habit they tend to cling to as a crutch during insecure paranoid premonitions of a possible coup during their lifetime, despite that leader having been chosen to lead his people, by the people, for the people. Any clever psychiatrist can magnify the insecurities and inherent jealousies of any leader, destabilising the continent as shock waves during an earthquake causing stress along junctions of plates making up the earth’s crust. Foreigners flaunt foreign aid, which can only result in – yes, bang! – another nail in the coffin of our insecurities. Whilst nailing down the coffin of despairing forebodings, which are as ingrained as far back as the slave traders and their cat-o-nine-tails, potential and humble unsuspecting leaders are continually showered with gifts and praise, encouraged to emulate the materialistic west. “Listen to your intuition!” shout the ancestors of long ago, but deafened by screaming jets and blinded by motorcades of shiny imported vehicles, many African leaders are subliminally unaware that the tenure of their reign actually depends on the minions in their kingdom. Mistakenly absorbed into the equation as finally having made it as an equal in the other world, how does this benefit a wealthy leader, whose insatiable palm is continually greased with recreational drugs, fighter jets and bullets that can only destroy a nation? The late barefoot Mahatma Gandhi dressed only in a loin cloth is still revered by countless millions throughout the world! Every nation looks to its leader for sustenance, whilst aspiring to educate their children so that they too, by evolution, will break the shackles of enslavement into poverty. If there is no solar panel heating for computerised machinery, no well-appointed clinics or operating theatres, no hot running water in every household, no radio in the kitchen or hot meals forthcoming, how does an empty larder equate with a presidential jet disappearing over the horizon? Sadly, the west is only interested in Africa’s mineral wealth and land. Wholly embracing black, white or brown Africans, doing business over the counter instead of under it, has never been part of the plan. Reality is that the wealth beneath her bare feet places Africa above those scheming familiar NGOs, packaged into fuel-guzzling 4x4s, scurrying like head lice throughout the scrubland, wasting precious fuel while the nation treks barefoot to its nearest clinic. The world knows that Africa has not inherited the technical knowledge they need to convert raw materials into product, and those who have qualified in these fields are enticed for greater reward elsewhere in the world. Until Africa is established she cannot afford to pay her own what they are worth. It is a vicious circle. This is what enslaves Africa. Now, when Africa needs academic expertise at her fingertips, it is out of reach – unless she pays for it – heavily – yes, out of the loans she grovelled for, of course! Financial consultants, arms dealers, genetically modified crops, drought levies, interest due and payable on outstanding loans … where does it end? Certainly, Africa may need the west, but let it be on her own terms. Unfortunately, he who holds the purse strings calls the tune, and basically, as long as African governments are beholden to the World Bank and IMF, no leader is safe until they learn in the first place, to avoid getting into bed (and thereby into debt) with unscrupulous non-African players and dealers. Money is their business. Coining interest on loans is an extension of that business. Theirs are not charity organisations. Consider again, the value of the Developing World. Who needs it? For the neo-colonialists in the First and Second World, their first choice is still our precious Third World. Why are we importing equipment for drastic logging projects and demolishing our rainforests, which Africa self-finances through yet even more loans? Basically, the bottom line is that when the neo-colonialists take over – the land will already have been cleared – perfect for embracing solar panels that can provide energy across Europe – and Mining!
